A specific task or set of tasks carried out within a process or phase to achieve a particular outcome. Activities are components of work that contribute to the completion of larger goals.

What is an Assessment?

In the context of innovation management, assessment is the systematic evaluation of aspiration for innovation and the ability to execute the aspiration. Assessments are conducted using various tools and methodologies, such as surveys, interviews, and data analysis, to identify strengths, weaknesses, and areas for improvement. The goal is to provide evidence-based recommendations to drive continuous innovation and organizational growth.

What is an Innovation Board?

A forum that oversees, evaluates, and champions innovation efforts can have many different names and exist in many versions simultaneously.

What are Innovation Champions?

People who actively work with or oversee innovation as a key part of their job description. They are the ones that draft the strategic agenda for the innovation work and coordinate and pioneer the work required to achieve the strategic agenda. They likely have advanced innovation management credentials, such as accreditation. Innovation champions should share a common language for innovation with “diffusers.”

What are Innovation Diffusers?

Refers to people who have recurring touchpoints with innovation. They might be enablers of innovation, pioneers of innovative ideas, or stakeholders in infrequent innovation projects. They likely have practical credentials in innovation management such as a certification or similar. Innovation diffusers share common realities with innovation followers, i.e., they are both mainly involved with tasks related to the core business of the organization.

What is a Program Committee?

A governance body, part of either the Innovation Board or a separate function, that oversees the portfolio or portfolios of an organization to secure efficient use of all resources and the outcome of the innovation work across the horizons.
